Know-How Transfer
The managed transfer of practical knowledge from one person or team to another.
What it means
Know-how transfer includes capturing knowledge, structuring it, and making it available to the recipient at the moment they need it. A personal handover is just one form of it.
Why it matters
Handing over knowledge "on the way out" is usually too late. Systematic transfer happens continuously, not just in the final month.
A real-world example
An outgoing process engineer goes through a set of structured interviews with their successor, and the output stays available to the whole organization.
Passing knowledge between people, teams, projects, or locations.
Making knowledge available to the people who need it for their work and decisions.
Transfer of experience between a seasoned employee and a less experienced colleague.
An organization's readiness to replace key people without losing their know-how.
The systematic capture of specific people's knowledge and experience into a usable form.
